GEGL and GIMP

GEGL is the Generic Graphical Library. In the near future, GEGL will be a generic, demand driven, graph based, efficient, image processing system.

Though GEGL can be used as standalone library, its primary purpose is to be backend for GIMP. At some step in the future integration of GEGL into GIMP will bring many major features to GIMP users.

GIMP's code base is in a phase, where gradual replacement of the code with GEGL based bits could happen, if GEGL was ready, but GEGL isn't ready yet.
